Disgraced University of South Florida coach Jim Leavitt is suing his former employer in an attempt to retrieve $7M from his now voided contract. Leavitt and his attorney, Will Florin, filed the 53 page lawsuit in the Hillsborough County Circuit Court last week under the grounds that he was wrongfully terminated by USF. The lawsuit contends that the school’s investigation was “biased, flawed, and legally unsupportable”.
Leavitt was fired by USF in January after sources leaked that he physically assaulted one of his players during halftime of the USF-Louisville game on November 21, 2009. Several witnesses claimed that a frustrated Leavitt grabbed Joel Miller by the throat and hit him in the face during the incident. Leavitt claims that no such thing happened but South Florida decided to sever ties with the school’s only coach and fired him in early January.
