Georgia likes to Party

University of Georgia fans want to exercise their God given right of properly tailgating on football Saturday. The students have urged university administrators to ease newly enacted restrictions on tailgating in North Campus come 2011. The student body asked the administration to specifically lift 3 restrictions: no tents, no tables longer than 4 feet, and no tailgating until four hours before kickoff. On its own, these demands seem quite reasonable but makes one wonder why the students didn’t fight...

It’s getting hot in Athens

Mark Richt’s embarrassing loss to Mississippi State this past Saturday (12-24) puts Georgia 0-3 in conference play and is causing concern in Athens. When Mark Richt took over the reins in 2001, he had great expectations for the Bulldogs and did not disappoint. During his coaching tenure at Georgia, he’s amassed a 7-2 bowl record while bringing home 2 SEC Championships and 4 SEC East Division titles. He also has an impressive 91-30 record as the head coach and...

Zach will not be back

The depth chart for QB at the University of Georgia just got a little shorter on Sunday. Coach Mark Richt dismissed from the team troubled QB Zach Mettenberger. The redshirt freshman was poised to be the starter over Aaron Murray and Logan Gray, but now he will be lucky to graduate as a Bulldog. Mettenbeger has been in the doghouse with Coach Richt ever since he was arrested during spring break for underage drinking, disorderly conduct, and obstruction. As...

Animatronic Mascot?

The Matador is a fan of animal rights just as much as the next guy, but a recent request by the beloved PETA is flat out absurd. In the wake of Georgia mascot UGA VII’s death, PETA has formally asked the university to honor UGA VII by choosing an animatronic or costumed mascot to represent the fallen bulldog. This request by PETA seems to undermine the entire rich tradition of the bulldog and all of Georgia’s spirit and pageantry...

Georgia loses a Lott

The Georgia Bulldogs lost freshman DT Derrick Lott for the season. Lott had surgery to his right ankle this past Friday in Athens, Georgia. Since Lott did not play in the season opener, Lott will apply to the NCAA for a medical redshirt giving him 4 remaining years of eligibility. Look out for Lott next season, he will make a lot of noise. In the meantime, the Bulldogs faithful should have no fear as Jeff Owens and Geno Atkins...

Richt and Co. banned from Carver of Columbus

It looks like Georgia’s Mark Richt is not welcome at Carver of Columbus after a recent recruiting miscommunication and debacle. Carver’s QB Devin Burns was initially offered a scholarship to play for Richt. Once he decided to commit, he and the family traveled to Athens, Georgia to announce his plans to play for the Bulldogs. Burns’ family, friends, and teammates all decided to head down to Athens to support his decision and celebrate the joyous occasion. Unfortunately, no one told Burns the scholarship...
