Georgia likes to Party

With a slew of tailgating restrictions in North Campus, college football Saturday is just not the same.

University of Georgia fans want to exercise their God given right of properly tailgating on football Saturday. The students have urged university administrators to ease newly enacted restrictions on tailgating in North Campus come 2011. The student body asked the administration to specifically lift 3 restrictions: no tents, no tables longer than 4 feet, and no tailgating until four hours before kickoff.

On its own, these demands seem quite reasonable but makes one wonder why the students didn’t fight the true problem: no kegs, televisions, grills, generators, or household furniture. The student body should have gone after those specific restrictions because those items are key ingredients to a perfect tailgate.

The impetus for the university to enact such bans on North Campus was a result of drunken students repeatedly trashing the area and leaving garbage everywhere. The university is listening to the student body and will formally address the request at a later date. The university wants to see continued pageantry from students which makes for a unique college football experience for all Bulldog fans.

In the meantime, the students do find reprieve in Myers Quad on South Campus where the tailgating rules are less strict. But after somebody lit a couch on fire during Georgia’s final home game last season, the university is keeping a keen eye on tailgating in South Quad.
