ND’s fate rests with true freshman QB Tommy Rees

It wasn’t too long when Notre Dame QB Tommy Rees was 3rd on the depth chart behind Dayne Crist and Nate Montana. Now, the 18 year-old freshman is set to make his grand starting debut for the most storied football program in the nation. Rees, a true freshman who left high school early to enroll at Notre Dame, will be the starting QB as the Irish and 81,000 fans take on #14 Utah this Saturday afternoon. With Dayne Crist...

ND’s Crist suffers season ending injury

Notre Dame was hit with another setback this season as word came out that QB Dayne Crist is out for the remainder of the season after suffering a ruptured patella tendon in his left knee. The gunslinger was injured in the first quarter of today’s game against Tulsa after scrambling for 29 yards on a broken play. Crist was knocked hard out of bounds by LB Tanner Antle and was clearly shaken by the helmet-to-helmet collision. Crist quickly grabbed his...

The Second Coming of Crist

As Jimmy Clausen checked out of ND early to head for the greener pastures of the NFL, QB Dayne Crist is ready to take center stage to lead the new look of the Fighting Irish. The 6’4” 235 pound junior, who says he fully recovered from last season’s ACL tear to his right knee, is ready to take orders from first-year coach Brian Kelly. The ghost of Montana’s past

The ghost of Montana revisited South Bend this Saturday before a crowd of 27,241 screaming Irish fans. The young Montana went 18 for 30 throwing for 223 yards, three TDs, and INT to lead the Gold to a thrilling victory over the Blue 27-19. Montana, who played for Pasadena City College last season, is not expected to...

As Easter nears, Crist rises

In the post Weis and Clausen era, Brian Kelly and Notre Dame got some good news out of the locker room. As spring practice kicked off and the players jaunted onto LaBar practice complex with their cleats and gold helmets, heralded 5 star recruit QB Dayne Crist was seen running with the team. Crist is recovering from surgery quicker than anticipated and is happy to be back on the field. Just four months ago, Crist tore his ACL during...

Montana returns to South Bend

The son of a legend returns to Notre Dame (again). Joe Montana convinced his son to return to the Irish as there is a great opportunity for Nate Montana to take some snaps under center. With the early departure of Jimmy Clausen and the knee injury to Dayne Crist, Brian Kelly is looking for a strong arm to run his offense. With no real prospects in sight, the job is wide open to anyone. In the first go-around, Montana saw very...

Irish in desperate need of a QB

Now that Brian Kelly has settled in South Bend and learned his way around the Guglielmino Athletics Complex, he has a major offensive issue to sort out. With the early departure of QB Jimmy Clausen and an ACL tear to the heir apparent Dayne Crist, Kelly does not have a QB with any collegiate experience. Unfortunately, the depth chart is not deep because Weis did not sign any top QB prospects in 2009. As of now, Kelly has only...
