The NCAA Strips Florida State

It’s official. The Florida State Seminoles will be forced to vacate 12 of its wins, five from the 2006-07 season and seven from the 2007-08 season. As part of the NCAA’s punishment, the school will be required to forfeit any trophies won during those seasons. Not that it’s an eye stopper at the Rick Losco Trophy Room, but this means the school must return its Emerald Bowl trophy back to the appropriate sponsor. Other teams facing sanctions were men’s and women’s...

For the Glory

Well it looks like signing day has come and gone. Aside from a few holdouts such as Seantrel Henderson (who is holding out on USC until the NCAA concludes its investigation), most teams have their recruiting class all lined up. Depending on which rating scale you prefer, the top ten schools should come to no surprise–Florida, Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma and USC all had strong showings and late moves. Penn State, Auburn and Washington also picked up some highly talented...

College Football’s Hypocrisy

College Football’s Hypocrisy

In a college football world where we expect loyalty and commitment to teams from our student athletes, college football coaches are able to pick up and leave on a whim without any penalty. The double standard is glaring. This young off-season has seen more coaching twists from L.A. to Knoxville, than a One Tree Hill episode. Former Cincy coach Brian Kelly started the snowball effect which is now infull speed. Kelly had taken the Bearcats to a school best 12-0 season record and...

The NCAA is in the Christmas Spirit

The NCAA is very strict when it comes to showering players with money and gifts; however, come bowl season do they ever make it rain. This year, the NCAA is allowing each player under “special benefits” to receive up to $500 worth of gifts from their bowl host and up to an additional $350 from the player’s school if the school so elects (this does not include the player’s cash per diem). The 2009 bowl gift list is nothing...

Take A Timeout On The Flags

College football is a game of passion, emotion, and energy. However, refs have taken it too far with penalizing every little celebration for excessive celebration. Many times, these calls have altered the outcome of the game which is totally ridiculous.  Last week Georgia’s A.J. Green caught the seemingly game winning touchdown against LSU with under a minute the go in the 4th quarter. After snagging the pass and scoring, Green was justifiably excited and celebrated with his teammates in...

Down And Out In Miami

One can’t help but to feel sorry for Miami DE Eric Moncur. It looks as if the 6th year senior will more than likely miss Monday’s Sunshine State Showdown against Florida State with a groin injury. Moncur flew to Philadelphia on Monday to see a specialist and to get a second opinion on his groin discomfort . Moncur missed 9 games last year after suffering an abdominal muscle tear and was granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA as a...

Green Light for ‘Bama

The NCAA has cleared Alabama’s Julio Jones and Mark Ingram to play in this weekend’s game against #7 Virginia Tech. Jones and Ingram were under investigation for participating in a fishing trip paid for by Alabama businessman Curtis Anderson earlier this year. Ingram and Jones will have to pay for expenses incurred on the trip but will not face any further penalty after doing so. Many fans in Tuscaloosa were holding their breath during the NCAA  investigation as the fate...

Gone Fishin’

The NCAA is at it again. The almighty organization is investigating whether or not a chartered fishing trip made by ‘Bama  football players, Julio Jones and RB Mark Ingram, was in violation since it was paid for by  Athens, GA business owner, Curtis Anderson. What makes the situation interesting though is the fact that  Anderson, who accompanied Jones and Ingram, suffers from degenerative disk disorder. He has undergone 6 major surgeries in hopes of being able to stand on his own again. Jones and Ingram...
