“A” is for Awful

The barbershop talk this morning is all about the disappointing week 2 in the ACC. To start, #13 Virginia Tech and Coach Beamer were a complete embarrassment being shocked and upset by James Madison University 16-21 in hostile Lane Stadium. The Hokies showed no signs of discipline turning over the ball 3 times and QB Tyrod Taylor was unable to garner any offense during the upset. Kansas quickly turned last week’s upset loss to North Dakota State into a...

Broncos buck the Hokies

It was a BCS-like bowl atmosphere inside FedEx Field last night as the Halloween themed Hokies took the field in the Battle in the Capital. Unfortunately, this game was no treat for VaTech as they fell to the Broncos 33-30. A stadium littered with drunk and screaming Hokies fans, quickly quieted as Boise State recovered a fumbled snap, blocked a punt, and held VaTech scoreless in the 1st quarter while taking a commanding 17-0 lead. After Tech overcame the nervous jitters,...

Whoa Broncos, not so fast

There is a lot of hype over in Boise that the Broncos will be in the national championship mix come season’s end. Unfortunately, hype is not real and neither is Boise State’s shot at traveling to Glendale, Arizona in January. All the prognosticators have Boise State ranked up there with Alabama, Ohio State, and Oklahoma, but you should think otherwise. There is no denying the Broncos’ recent success as Chris Petersen has led the Blue and Orange to a...

Revenge is best served cold

As of late, the ACC has failed in producing a BCS championship caliber team with the possible exception of Virginia Tech. In 2009, only Virginia Tech (10-3) landed in the top 10 (#10) of the final AP Top 10 rankings. In 2008, no team from the ACC finished in the final AP Top 10. The highest ranked team was Virginia Tech (10-4) at #15. However, 2010 is the season in which the conference can regain that respect and prove all the doubters wrongs...

Gillette Stadium to host UMass v. UNH

A common trend in college football is to schedule neutral site games to generate income and to expand each school’s exposure. Notre Dame is scheduled to play at Cowboys Stadium and Yankee Stadium in the coming seasons. FedEx Field, home of the Washington Redskins, will host Virginia Tech v. Boise State and Indiana v. Penn State in 2010. It now looks like the football championship subdivision wants to cash in on the action. UMass and UNH have just penned...
