“A” is for Awful

The barbershop talk this morning is all about the disappointing week 2 in the ACC. To start, #13 Virginia Tech and Coach Beamer were a complete embarrassment being shocked and upset by James Madison University 16-21 in hostile Lane Stadium. The Hokies showed no signs of discipline turning over the ball 3 times and QB Tyrod Taylor was unable to garner any offense during the upset. Kansas quickly turned last week’s upset loss to North Dakota State into a...

QB Demetrius Jones will play for food

QB Demetrius Jones just can’t find a home. It only seems like yesterday that Jones was under center taking snaps for the Fighting Irish. In 2007, he was given the starting nod when the team faced Georgia Tech to kick-off the season. After a horrendous effort by Jones, in comes heralded recruit Jimmy Clausen to take over the signaling calling duties. When then Coach Charlie Weis benched Jones, he had no other choice but to quit the team and...

Nesbitt Grounded For Spring

Georgia Tech QB Josh Nesbitt is expected to miss 6 weeks after undergoing ankle surgery earlier this week. Unfortunately for Nesbitt, he likely will not make a full recovery in time for Tech’s spring practices which begins on March 29th. Nesbitt passed for 1,000 yards and rushed for another 1,000 during Georgia Tech’s ACC championship run last season. The Georgia Tech coaching staff have to be a little disappointed with this news as they were planning on spending the...

The times have changed for the Big 10

“The SEC has a lot more speed-type people. They (the Big Ten) have a lot more big guys. We’ve got great receivers and running backs to try to take advantage of something Penn State doesn’t have.” LSU QB Jordan Jefferson prior to PSU’s speed and defense dominating the game. As the bowl season is coming to an end, the most impressive and improved performance by any conference as a whole was the Big 10. As of late, the conference...

Vandy’s QB Smith out, Mac in

For all you Vandy fans, the word is out. Starting QB Larry Smith suffered a season ending hamstring injury during last Saturday’s loss to Georgia Tech. At first, there was a slim chance that Smith could return, but after his MRI revealed an actual tear, it made clear Smith will not return anytime soon. Coach Bobby Johnson confirmed the extent of Smith’s injury and announced Senior QB Mackenzi Adams, who has made nine previous starts for the Commodores, will replace Smith in the...

Skinner out with a concussion

Wake Forest has to regroup after a heartbreaking loss to Miami 27-28 this past Saturday. Unfortunately, they will have to regroup without the services of QB Riley Skinner. Skinner’s status remains to be seen after suffering a mild concussion late in the Miami game. Here is what the school had to say: Skinner left the game after a hard hit along the Wake Forest sideline with 6:22 remaining in the game and the Demon Deacons holding a 27-21 lead...

Harris is out with a cervical burn

Florida State’s sophomore LB Maurice Harris is ruled out for the remainder of the season. Harris suffered a cervical burn in last week’s game against Georgia Tech and his MRI confirmed the inevitable. The 6’0 200 pound stud was the fifth leading tackler (15 tackles) on the team and played an integral role on special teams. This is a big loss for the Seminoles as their defense is already suspect. Bowden may have to shuffle some personnel to fill...

Dwyer does not practice

The Georgia Tech camp reported that RB and All-ACC player Jonathan Dwyer (Jr. 6’0, 235 lbs.) did not practice yesterday. He is apparently recovering from a hip flexor injury. The team is reporting the injury is not serious. Let’s hope this is true as the Yellow Jackets are not deep with experienced RBs. Freshman Richard Watson (Fr. 6’1, 22 lbs.) is slated to back-up Dwyer if he does not play.
