To prospect Seantrel Henderson was released from his NLI

Lane Kiffin did the right thing today by releasing Seantrel Henderson from his national letter of intent with USC. During the recruiting process, the highly sought after high school star had reservations about signing with USC because of the NCAA’s pending investigation during the Carroll days. Henderson was told that USC would not face harsh penalties which ultimately led to his signing with the Trojans.

As we all know, the gauntlet fell on Troy which caused Henderson to get cold feet. With USC facing major sanctions to include a two year bowl ban, Henderson wanted to explore other options.

After discussing with Kiffin and the university, USC agreed to release the top prospect with zero restrictions. Kiffin did not even put a “no PAC 10” team clause in his release. Henderson is free to play for any team anywhere. Kiffin could have not agreed to the release which would have prevented Henderson from playing football for the 2010 season.

As it stands, Henderson is seriously considering Miami or Ohio State; however, Kiffin believes USC has a fighting chance to re-sign the top prospect from the 2010 class.
