Who will hoist the Little Caesars Bowl Trophy in 2010?

The Little Caesars Pizza Bowl confirmed where it ranks as one of the lowest tiered bowl games possible. The organizers have come to an agreement with the Big 10 and Mid-American conference (MAC) for the next four bowl seasons. Presumably to build up anticipation, the committee announced that the bowl game will feature the Big 10 8th seed (No. 8 Big 10 bowl eligible team) against either the No. 1 MAC or No. 2 MAC team. This match-up clearly exemplifies the disparity between the Big 10 and MAC. Basically, the worst bowl eligible Big 10 team will face-off against the best MAC team.  In this scenario, who is really the underdog?

So gear up Motown, as Ford Field will have some quality bowl match-ups until 2013. On a side note, if the Big 10 does not have enough bowl eligible teams or declines an invitation, the Little Caesars Bowl committee will get to select a team from the always competitive Sun Belt Conference.

There is no question that through their hard work and effort the Little Caesars Bowl committee and the NCAA have saved this annual event, but is 34 bowl games really necessary for the sport? This is just another case of excessiveness and greed as 68 out of 120 D1 schools go bowling every post-season. Again, a playoff system would resolve the overabundance of these ridiculous and meaningless  bowl games.
