Federal judge sentences Mark Ingram Sr. to additional 2 years in prison

Mark Ingram Sr., father of Alabama Heisman winner running back Mark Ingram, was sentenced to an additional 2 years in the federal prison system earlier today. Ingram Sr. was supposed to report to federal prison in January of 2009 to begin serving time on a 92 month sentence after being convicted of federal money laundering and bank fraud charges.  Instead of reporting to jail, Ingram Sr. locked himself in a Michigan motel room on the evening of January 3rd, 2009 in an attempt to watch his son play in that year’s Sugar Bowl game against the Utah Utes. As a result of his actions, he was slapped with an extra 2 year stay as a guest of the federal penal system.

One can only hope that watching the game was worth having an additional 2 years added to your prison sentence. Ingram Sr. is no stranger to football and the criminal justice system. He was a game-changer for the eventual world champion New York Giants in Super Bowl XXV, and he’s had several run-ins with the law since hanging up the cleats in 1996. It is well known that Mark Ingram, Jr. highly respects and credits his father with shaping him into the person and athlete that he is today. Hopefully Ingram Sr. can complete the rest of his sentence without incident and make it home in enough time to reunite him with his son and watch him in the NFL.
