Heavy turbulence lies ahead

I'll be back...

As Rich Rodriguez kicked off the 2009 season, all signs were pointing to the Wolverines climbing back to the promised land of elite status. However, after midway through the season, the Wolverines did a 180 and headed straight down for a crash landing and the fans are getting frustrated.

In two seasons, RichRod has amassed an 8-15 (3-12 in the Big Ten) record. This is unacceptable for a program with such prestige, but don’t fret fans, RichRod is here to stay even with this gray cloud hanging over Ann Arbor.

For the second straight season, Michigan will not go bowling (assuming they lose to OSU today). This is unprecedented for the Wolverines, but Rodriguez is convinced that the top brass over at the AD office will keep RichRod around for another season despite rumors of firing.

In a radio show this week, Rodriguez said he has no plans on packing his bags and he thinks Michigan has no plans of getting rid of him. He is also thinking ahead by stating Tate Forcier isn’t the guaranteed starter come 2010. This comment is presumably made because Michigan landed a top QB recruit in Devin Gardner. Rodriguez’s competitive philosophy is quite simple–“We want two to three guys at every position who are truly competing for the job.”

Maybe he should apply this philosophy to his coaching. His players are top athletes, but perhaps coaching is hurting the Wolverines’ reputation. Who knows, but one thing is for sure, Rodriguez, despite fan protest, will be on the sidelines next season and with a young QB at the helm, the fan faithful will be dealing with another sub-par season.
