D.J. Harper Suffers Torn ACL

Boise State running back D.J. Harper will more than likely miss the rest of the 2009 season with a torn ACL.  Harper went down injured on Friday’s road victory against Fresno State. Boise State’s offense will definitely feel the void of Harper’s production as he is currently the Broncos’ second leading rusher. Head coach Chris Petersen informed the media of Harper’s injury during Monday’s press conference,   “It’s hard on all of us, it’s hard on the offense and it’s hard on D.J.,” Petersen said Monday. “He’s a heck of a back, and we were just starting to see the best of him. He’ll be missed, no question about it.”

The junior RB has had a large role in the team’s rushing attack as he has rushed for 284 yards and 3 touchdowns in 3 games this season. Last year he shared playing time in a crowded backfield but still amassed 278 yards and 4 TDs in 13 games. Jeremy Avery and Doug Martin will be called on to carry the backfield for the Broncos now that Harper is out. Harper will more than likely receive a medical redshirt making him eligible for two more seasons.
