McGee Named UT's Starting RB

Texas junior Vondrell McGee was named starting running back  for the ‘Horns today. There has been an intense battle for possession of the position between McGee and  sophomore Foswhitt Whittaker, but McGee took the lead after Whittaker was forced to sit out a few practices with injury. Texas Coach Mack Brown was impressed by McGee’s strength during the summer and thinks that he has a lot to contribute to the offense.

However, Brown also made it known that he is not afraid to replace McGee if he’s not producing. “If Vondrell is making yards, he’ll get a bunch. If not, we’ll get someone else in there,” Brown said. “Fozzy had an outstanding summer. He will play if he’s healthy.” McGee saw action in 12 games last season in which he rushed for 376 yards and 4 TDs. He has the potential to be a formidible ground threat and would help take some of the load off of the Texas passing game.
