Kelly to replace Weis?

Early reports are already coming in that Brian Kelly will be the next head coach for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Cincinnati coach has taken the Bearcats to uncharted territory and ND would expect nothing less out of Kelly. Recently on a Cincinnati radio show Kelly denied the speculation and dismissed any rumors or talk of ND. But why would he say anything at this point? He has the Big East showdown with Pitt this weekend. Any comments about...

Sparty has a bit of a punch

An unsanctioned team building exercise was a complete failure for Sparty and the football team. Apparently 8 football players, including 3 starters have all been suspended from team activities for their involvement in a pre-Thanksgiving, November 22nd dorm fight. Basically, in an act of stupidity and in a fit of rage, the alleged football players stormed a fraternity gathering at Rather Hall by randomly hitting and injuring at least 7 students (both male and female). As a result of...

Another violent Duck

The Pac 10 Civil War showdown is set for this Thursday between Oregon and Oregon State. The winner gets the big prize: an automatic birth to the Rose Bowl to face Ohio State. The excitement of a Rose Bowl invitation may be too much to handle for the players just ask Terrance Montgomery. Unfortunately, Montgomery lost his self control as he was arrested on Monday by Springfield police and jailed on assault charges for choking an unnamed female at...

Florida player goes back to his roots

Florida’s All-American (not All-Academic) defensive end Carlos Dunlap did about the stupidest act one could do prior to the SEC championship game. Around 3:25 a.m. today, Gainesville police arrested Dunlap and booked him into the Alachua County jail on charges of DUI. Apparently, late Monday night, an eye-witness saw someone driving recklessly in the area. The police dispatched an officer into the area and subsequently found the parked Chrysler that matched the witnesses’ description stopped at a green light...

Weis will not be retained as Notre Dame football coach

November 30, 2009     University of Notre Dame head football coach Charlie Weis will not be retained, University director of athletics Jack Swarbrick announced today. “We have great expectations for our football program, and we have not been able to meet those expectations,” Swarbrick said. “As an alumnus, Charlie understands those goals and expectations better than most, and he’s as disappointed as anyone that we have not achieved the desired results.” Swarbrick recommended the dismissal Sunday night to Notre Dame’s...

Fans must wait one more day

We will have to wait another day until we learn the fate of Bobby Bowden. The ACCs winningest football coach will announce his intentions tomorrow on whether or not he will return to Florida State. The 80 year old legend met with the school’s president, TK Wetherall, and AD Randy Spetman today to discuss Bowden’s future and the football team’s direction. Long gone are the days of Florida State’s dominance between 1987 and 2000 (14 consecutive finishes in the top 5...

Two more coaches are unemployed

At least two coaches fell victim this Black Sunday. UVA’s Al Groh parted ways with the Cavaliers and Marshall’s Mark Snyder, who resigned, will forever be a Herd but just not the head coach. Groh’s firing shouldn’t come to any surprise. His job has been in jeopardy since the season kicked-off. The team suffered an embarrassing 3-9 record in 2009 and lost 8 of their last nine games. The team hit an all time low when it lost to in-state...

A Moment of Silence

It’s a solemn morning in Effingham, Illinois as Eastern Illinois’ assistant coach Jeff Hoover died following a car crash upon his return home from a road play-off game. Earlier on Saturday, the team lost 48-7 against Southern Illinois. After the game and on the way home, Hoover was involved in a car accident when he attempted to swerve to avoid a deer. Additionally, when his SUV rolled over it caused injuries to his passengers to include family members. Our thoughts...
