Disgraced LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson wants his starting job back from Jarrett Lee, his replacement. Jefferson, a senior, was reinstated to the football program last week after suspension for his involvement in a mid-August fight. He had originally been charged with felony second-degree battery, but a Louisiana grand jury reduced his charge to simple battery, a misdemeanor, thus clearing the way for his return. Jefferson has been LSU’s starting signal-caller since November 2008, his true freshman season in Baton Rouge....

Meyer vs. Saban, Act III

All eyes will be on Tuscaloosa, AL, this Saturday night when #7 Florida takes on #1 Alabama. There will be no shortage of storylines as these two schools’ bitter rivalry has become renewed over the past five seasons. The last time these two teams met was on December 5, 2009, in Atlanta, GA, for the SEC Championship game and a chance to play in the BCS National Championship. Alabama (#2) handily beat Florida (#1), 32-13, in route to their...

Is Kirk Ferentz the most overrated coach in college football? Pt. 2

The first part of this Iowa news series received such a warm reception by Hawkeye Nation, hopefully part two promises more of the same. Apparently, Hawkeye football in Iowa is more popular than corn subsidies. Iowans from Sioux City to Waterloo either left comments or shot-off emails, sticking up for their head coach, with some using a few choice words to do so.  Nonetheless, I would not expect any different from any true college football fan in coming to the aid and defense of their...

The Riverboat Gambler’s Final Hand

Three years removed from winning his first and only BCS National Championship, LSU skipper Les Miles could be entering his last season as head coach of the Tigers. Miles assumed head coaching duties on January 3, 2005, when current Alabama head coach Nick Saban bolted Baton Rouge to try his hand in the NFL. Miles got off to a red-hot start by going 11-2 in his first season as head coach and earned a trip to Atlanta to represent...

OMG! R U Serious?

Technology, you gotta love it.  Tennessee running back Bryce Brown made it official yesterday that he’s leaving the program for good by sending a text message to head coach Derek Dooley. Yes, a text message. You stay classy Bryce! The RB had announced earlier this year that he intended to leave the program, but there was speculation that he might stay. Brown was scheduled to meet with Dooley yesterday to discuss his future with the team, a meeting that many in...

Clemson’s Parker gets drafted by the Colorado Rockies

Clemson quarterback Kyle Parker was taken with the 26th pick in the first round of this year’s MLB draft earlier this evening. Parker was drafted by the Colorado Rockies and became the school’s 10th first round draft pick. While this is a great accomplishment by Parker, the redshirt sophomore will have to make a decision to either return to Clemson and play football in the fall, or leave school for a career with the Colorado Rockies. Clemson thrived last...

Kentucky’s Derrick Locke will be put on the disabled list after sustaining injuries from a moped accident yesterday night. The do-it-all tailback for the Wildcats fell from his moped last night and broke a bone in his forearm while trying to catch his balance.  UK spokesman Tony Neely told the Louisville Courier-Journal that Locke will not need surgery to repair the damage done to the arm, and that he expected Locke to be fully recovered by the time the...

Play Ball…football that is

Football is coming to Wrigley Field. A deal was reached last Thursday that will bring the Northwestern Wildcats and the Illinois Fighting Illini to Wrigley for a game on November 20th, 2010. Football isn’t new to Wrigley field as the Chicago Bears used to call the ballpark home from 1921-1970. “It’s great for both programs, with the mystique of the stadium,” Illinois coach Ron Zook told ESPN.com. “Both programs will really enjoy it.” It seems to be a growing trend...
