Is the eye of the Hurricane approaching South Bend?

Notre Dame football has not been the money maker it used to be. Their lack of quality bowls and the team’s poor performance this past decade has negatively impacted their NBC ratings and viewing audiences. The school is also taking a financial hit as former coaches Ty Willingham and Charlie Weis are still on the payroll per their buyout agreements. In order to cure this financial downfall and to boost the school’s potential to make more money, the AD is looking...

JoePa continues to churn NFL caliber linebackers

Schools earn nicknames for a reason and anyone who follows college football knows where the greatest linebackers come to play ball. Penn State continued to showcase its “Linebacker U” status by having all three starting linebackers drafted in the 2010 NFL Draft. This marks 6 linebackers drafted in the past four drafts for JoePa. The first LB to go was Sean Lee in the 2nd round to the Dallas Cowboys (55th pick). LB Navorro Bowman was drafted in the...

NCAA gives a black eye to eye black

NCAA football’s governing body just approved rule changes earlier today that will take effect starting in 2011 to include no eye black messages, no wedge blocking, and no major taunting. We first reported the proposed rule change back in February, but now it’s official. Players wearing eye black will be forbidden to write any messages on their glare blocking accessories. While eye black has always been a part of football, the trend of writing messages on them really took off...

OU didn’t steal my signs

The mighty Ducks personnel cannot just accept the fact that Ohio State totally dominated the Ducks in the Rose Bowl. The Ducks’ offensive coordinator, Mark Helfrich, is suggesting that some of the team’s signals were compromised during “The Granddaddy of Them All.” Rather than taking the 26-17 defeat like a man, in true American fashion, Helfrich is blaming someone else for his offense’s poor performance (Masoli only completed 9 out of 20 passes for 81 yards, 0 TDs and 1 INT)....

The caged bird sings

For the few fans who are still tracking the life of former Ohio State RB Maurice Clarett, today could be a day he will never forget. There is a small possibility that he could be released from county jail and transferred to a community based correction facility and ultimately released in 6 months. An Ohio judge will determine his fate later today as a hearing has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today in Franklin County Common Pleas Court. Clarett has been a...

Tressel says he’d have no problem with having a gay football player

College football’s best dressed coach gave a historic interview to a Columbus Ohio magazine that caters to the city’s gay residents. The Columbus Outlook interviewed Ohio State’s Jim Tressel last month where the coach suggested that he’d  openly accept any gay player to the Ohio State Buckeye football family.”We try to tell our guys that an authentic you is the best you,” Tressel told the magazine. “That’s truly what freedom means, and the beauty of living in America.
