A once promising future was crushed by crime and violence

For the few fans who are still tracking the life of former Ohio State RB Maurice Clarett, today could be a day he will never forget. There is a small possibility that he could be released from county jail and transferred to a community based correction facility and ultimately released in 6 months. An Ohio judge will determine his fate later today as a hearing has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today in Franklin County Common Pleas Court.

Clarett has been a guest of the state of Ohio for the past 3 ½ years for aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon. He was sentenced for 7 ½ years, but his good behavior and the fact that you typically do not serve your entire sentence may get him out earlier than anticipated. He has been a “model” inmate taking college level courses and staying out of trouble.

There is no word on whether or not he wants to get back into football, but we will never forget his star quality play as he led the Buckeyes to the national championship in double OT over Miami in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. After a victorious legal battleregarding entering the draft prematurely, in 2005, Clarett was drafted in the 3rd round by the Denver Broncos but was cut as the season started.
