Either some Ohio State fans were visiting Ann Arbor this week or the boys over at Phi Kappa Psi extended winter rush week into March. The University of Michigan police are currently investigation the damage to the block “M” from the Michigan Stadium football field. A U-of-M spokeswoman stated that a 6 foot by 8 inch chunk of field turf was carved out of the 50 yard-line “M” during the weekend. Officials have confirmed that the “M” was vandalized between 3:30 p.m. Friday and 11:30 a.m. Monday.
FieldTurf is similar to carpet in that you would need a very large and sharp bladed knife to cut through the “M.” Unfortunately for Michigan, there are cameras located all throughout the stadium, but no active cameras are aimed towards the field because those cameras are in the press box which is currently under construction. As of now, University officials are still investigating the matter and have yet to disclose any additional information.
The cost of the estimated damage is between $1,500.00 and $2,000.00. The cost of the embarrassment, priceless.
