Georgia Tech alum and avid college football fan Mary Clayton is suing her former school for false arrest, false imprisonment, and for conducting an illegal search stemming from a humiliating strip search back in September 25, 2010 involving a Chick-fil-A sandwich. Clayton, a season ticket holder, was rushing to her seat as Georgia Tech was ready to kick-off against North Carolina State. Upon entry into the stadium, Georgia Tech officers stopped her as they suspected she was smuggling a chicken sandwich into the stadium. She denied having any sandwich on her body and stated she threw it out.
Apparently, this did not satisfy the officers as a female officer escorted her to a bathroom stall and required her to expose herself by lifting her shirt and bra and dropping her pants. After a thorough search of her body, clothes, and underwear, the officer did not find any sandwich, but Claying did find this strip search “humiliating and degrading.”
As a result of the incident, Clayton did not renew her season tickets and filed a verified complaint in the US District Court for the Northern Division of Georgia (1:11-cv-2437) seeking, among other things, monetary damages.
