Who Could Sneak into the Title Game?

By now, every college sports fan on the planet has heard a great deal about the few teams at the top of the race for a BCS Championship. Put simply, Alabama, Oregon and Ohio State are overwhelming favorites to compete for the title, with LSU on the fringe of that group and seemingly everyone else lagging behind. Unfortunately, college football is not a sport that tends to lend itself to big surprises in rankings or outcomes – but nonetheless,...

Clemson Faces Another Off-field Blow

First, it was star receiver Sammy Watkins who was arrested for possession of marijuana.  Now, Clemson’s top running back prospect, Mike Bellamy, is no longer a Tiger as he has been ruled academically ineligible.  The speedster announced that he will be transferring this summer with aspirations of playing football for a junior college. Last season, Bellamy came to Clemson with great expectations, but his tenure was anything but smooth.  As a true freshman, Bellamy turned heads with his lightening...

ACC disappoints as bowl season ends with 2-6 record

Following West Virginia’s 70-33 rout of 14th ranked Clemson in last night’s Discover Orange Bowl, the ACC is a paltry 2-6 in bowl season play. This record marks the lowest winning percentage for AQ conferences for the 2011 season. It could have been worse, but thanks to Florida State’s heroic efforts in the Champs Sports Bowl edging Notre Dame 18-14 and NC State’s TD victory over Louisville 31-24, the ACC secured two much needed wins. To be fair, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech...

It’s time for OSU to part ways with Jim Tressel

Ohio State hired Jim Tressel before the 2001 season to replace John Cooper and to revive its struggling program. Since then, Tressel has brought to Columbus a national championship, three BCS championship births, 7 Big Ten conference titles, a Heisman Trophy, and complete domination over rival Michigan. Unfortunately, the legendary Tressel has also brought shame to this storied program that cannot be overlooked. Under his watch, their have been numerous arrests, questions about recruiting, and concerns regard players receiving extra...

UNC’s Greg Elleby out for the season

Friedgen feeling the pressure as Terps head into ACC play

Carrying an impressive 3-1 record, the Maryland Terrapins will host ACC foe Duke this Saturday at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium in College Park, MD. Saturday’s game against Duke will be Maryland’s first conference game of the season. Although the season is very young, the lack of a presence of a truly dominate team in the conference makes the race for the ACC seem wide open this year. Expectations in College Park, and among Maryland alumni are high for the Terps...

Korn was born a ramblin’ man

Former Clemson QB Willy Korn transferred to Marshall with the hopes of competing for the starting job. However, after 10 days of practice coach Doc Holliday decided to move the triggerman to safety. The position switch came to a shock to Korn who played exceptionally well during preseason practice protecting the ball and throwing accurately. Korn was displeased with the move and decided it was best to find a new home where he would have a shot at fulfilling...

Clemson still awaiting Parker’s decision

As the 2010 season nears, Clemson is still awaiting word from QB Kyle Parker on his decision to either return to school or depart for the Colorado Rockies. Rumors were swirling that Parker would give Clemson his decision over the weekend, but mum is still the word as Parker and Colorado continue hammering out a  potential multi-million dollar signing bonus. That alone would be reason enough to sway Parker from the gridiron. Parker was taken with the 26th pick...
