Barry Switzer immortalized by Oklahoma

The University of Oklahoma commemorated former head coach Barry Switzer by unveiling a bronze statue of the legendary coach at the Switzer Center this past Saturday during a well received pre-game dedication ceremony. In attendance included Big12 commissioner Chuck Neinas, Bob Stoops, and former and current OU coaches and players. From 1973-1988, Switzer compiled an unprecedented 157-29-4 overall record and a  blustering 100-11-1 conference record winning more games than any other coach in school history. During that dominance, he...

USC RB Dillon Baxter out on paternity leave?

If you watched USC break Notre Dame’s spirit last night, you might have noticed that the Trojan’s star running back Dillon Baxter was not on the sidelines. In fact, he did not even travel with the team. Rather, Baxter stayed home because his girlfriend was going into labor. There is no word on whether or not his girlfriend did in fact give birth this weekend, but with Baxter’s constant absence, there is reason to believe his days on the team...

Joe Paterno reaches 408th win, ties the late Eddie Robinson for total career victories

Joe Paterno reached a historical milestone this evening by defeating Northwestern for his 408th career win tying the late legendary Grambling coach Eddie Robinson for total career victories. Penn State’s 34-24 win was in true Joe Paterno fashion who drew up a well balanced attack on offense and a suffocating run-stopping defense. The offense amassed 389 total yards with 192 yards in the air and 197 yards on the ground. Meanwhile, the defense stopped the Northwestern’s ground game holding both...

Arizona streaker could face 18 months in jail

If you don’t know the name Jace Michael Lankow, he was the idiot who dressed up as an official and streaked during the final seconds of the half of the Arizona-UCLA game Thursday night. As a result of his impersonation and the ensuing chaos that led to two players ejected and multiple suspensions, he was booked into Pima County jail. Lankow was charged with criminal impersonation, a class 6 felony in the state of Arizona. Though he was released...

Congressman John Conyers urges House probe on antitrust issues in college sports

The landscape of college football and the respective conference realignment carousel is not only causing a stir amongst college football fans, but it’s causing concern amongst key members on Capitol Hill. Ranking Democrat Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) voiced his concern earlier this week by sending a six page letter to Texas Republican Lamar Smith, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, urging the Judiciary Committee to hold hearings regarding the state and role of money in college sports. In his...

Notre Dame unveils the new standard for gold helmets

During head coach Brian Kelly’s post-practice debriefing earlier today, he revealed to the Notre Dame nation a tweak in the team’s wardrobe — a new gold helmet.  With the Fighting Irish set to host USC under the lights Saturday night, there is no better time and venue to inaugurate the new gold helmet which has been tested and approved for HD cameras that look “terrific” under the lights according to Kelly. The helmet, with its unique reflective gold particles,...

10 athletes who desperately need financial counseling

Athletes make more money than they know what to do with. As soon as they sign that million or multi-million dollar contract, all self control goes out the window. With a little dose of reality and some professional financial counseling, these 10 athletes can finally...

Gay student caught kissing boy, suspended and kicked off cheerleading team

If you are a student/athlete at Alice High School in Alice, Texas, you will be kicked off your respective sport if you are caught kissing someone of the same sex.  This just happened to a 17 year-old male, who was on the school’s varsity cheerleading team.  The young male was seen kissing a boy inside the school’s band room last week when the school’s surveillance camera caught him in action.  As punishment, the school kicked him off the Coyotes cheerleading squad...
