ACC disappoints as bowl season ends with 2-6 record

Following West Virginia’s 70-33 rout of 14th ranked Clemson in last night’s Discover Orange Bowl, the ACC is a paltry 2-6 in bowl season play. This record marks the lowest winning percentage for AQ conferences for the 2011 season. It could have been worse, but thanks to Florida State’s heroic efforts in the Champs Sports Bowl edging Notre Dame 18-14 and NC State’s TD victory over Louisville 31-24, the ACC secured two much needed wins. To be fair, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech...

Big 10 ends bowl season with much needed win

The Big 10 bowl season concluded last night after Michigan narrowly escaped Virginia Tech in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The final bowl tally for the conference is 4-6. The record could have been a disappointing 2-8 had it not been for Michigan State’s heroic come-from-behind triple OT win against Georgia and some extremely poor coaching by Virginia Tech’s Frank Beamer in last night’s game. The Big 10 struggled overall with Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, Penn State, Northwestern, and Ohio State...

Urban Meyer bans Twitter

Urban Meyer bans Twitter

Within hours of officially taking over the reins at Ohio State, head coach Urban Meyer instituted a Twitter ban on all players. Meyer does not want his players posting comments, regardless of how innocuous they may be, on the popular social media micro-blogging site. With Ohio State already facing a bowl ban for the 2012 season thanks to former head coach Jim Tressel, Meyer wants to ensure players do not draw any more unnecessary attention to the program. If...

Protesters quietly held up signs such as “Penn Rape” and “Pope JoePa”. Some signs were explicit and a bit distasteful, but you be the judge (watch video HERE).

Three Washington coaches fired on New Year’s Eve

Three Washington coaches fired on New Year’s Eve

It is no wonder that the Washington Huskies fired three defensive coaches after the defense yielded an embarrassing 777 yards of total offense and 67 points in an 11-point loss to Baylor in Thursday’s Alamo Bowl. Earlier today, the school officially announced the termination of defensive coordinator Nick Holt, linebacker coach Mike Cox and secondary coach Jeff Mills. The news should not come to any surprise as Washington boasted one of the worst defenses in school history allowing 453.3...

Oregon’s Mark Asper saves choking diner during the 2011 Beef Bowl

Oregon’s Mark Asper saves choking diner during the 2011 Beef Bowl

Oregon guard Mark Asper can not only block with the best of them, but he is also a true Eagle Scout. During last night’s traditional Beef Bowl hosted by the famed Lawry’s in Beverly Hills, Asper performed an emergency Heimlich maneuver on Paul Diamond, a random diner and screenwriter veteran, who was choking on a slab of prime rib. When Asper saw Diamond struggling and portraying the universal sign of chocking with his hands clutched to his throat,...

Rockets escape feisty Falcons

Rockets escape feisty Falcons

Though there was a sparse crowd of 25,042 at RFK for the 2011 Military Bowl, the Air Force Falcons and Toledo Rockets did not disappoint with their back-and-forth scoring between two high powered offenses. Toledo secured its 42-41 victory in an instant classic after Air Force failed in a 2-point conversion gamble with :52 seconds remaining in the game. The Mountain West’s Air Force Falcons and Mid-American Conference’s Toledo Rockets are two of the most high-scoring offenses in the...
