The Matador originally posted that the Golden Eagles’ punter Peter Wilkes passed away on Friday based on a press release from the Southern Mississippi Athletic Department. Apparently, the release was premature as the school is now retracting the statement–Wilkes is still alive, but in critical condition. When The Matador thinks college football, Kenny Chesney does not come to mind. It pains me to think that part of Chesney will be incorporated into every single ESPN/ABC college football game this season. Last fall Kenny Chesney was at a Nashville dinner with play-by-play announcer Brett Musburger, football analyst Kirk Herbstreit and producer Bill Bonnell.
