Rockies court Kyle Parker

Two sport athlete Kyle Parker is scheduled to visit the Colorado Rockies this weekend to layout his future plans. As it stands, Parker has two options: return to Clemson to play football with the Tigers or sign on the dotted line and go pro in baseball. Last year Clemson went 9-5 and beat Kentucky in the Music City Bowl. During that year, Parker had an impressive run passing for 2,526 yards, the fifth highest total for a freshman in...

Clemson’s Parker gets drafted by the Colorado Rockies

Clemson quarterback Kyle Parker was taken with the 26th pick in the first round of this year’s MLB draft earlier this evening. Parker was drafted by the Colorado Rockies and became the school’s 10th first round draft pick. While this is a great accomplishment by Parker, the redshirt sophomore will have to make a decision to either return to Clemson and play football in the fall, or leave school for a career with the Colorado Rockies. Clemson thrived last...

Clemson’s renaissance man makes history

This time last year, Clemson’s Kyle Parker was a redshirt freshman who was entrenched in a heated quarterback competition with Willy Korn. Fast forward to 2010, Parker is set to enter the 2010 season as Clemson’s #1 QB on the depth chart while Korn has left Clemson for the greener pastures of Marshall. Parker led the Clemson Tigers to an ACC Atlantic division football title last season and hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. While Parker demonstrated that he...

To be (a football star), or not to be, that is the question

Clemson fans should be a bit concerned heading into spring practice regarding who will take snaps under center. QB Kyle Parker, who led the Tigers to their first ACC title game, may have thrown his last TD pass. Parker is now focusing on baseball as he is a standout outfielder on a team who is ranked as high as #15 in some preseason polls. Currently, Parker is in his third season with the school’s baseball team. Some speculate he...

Korn Leaves Clemson

Clemson backup QB Willie Korn is leaving the football program for Marshall. Korn, a redshirt sophomore, came to Clemson in 2007 as one of the most prized QB recruits in history. Then-coach Tommy Bowden had so much faith in Korn that he and his coaching staff did not go after another QB in that recruiting class. Unfortunately, Korn’s career at Clemson has been plagued with injuries which left him too far behind on the depth chart. As a result, he has never...

A slap in the face for TCU and Boise State

As the bowl line-up was recently announced, two teams received a back handed compliment. #6 Boise State and #3 TCU both landed BCS bids, but much to their dismay, they did not get the marquee match-up as they hoped. Unfortunately, they will be playing each other in this year’s Fiesta Bowl. When TCU and Boise State both received bids, the school’s erupted with enthusiasm. But seconds later, the crowds suddenly became disenchanted when it was announced that the Horned...

Clemson will take down N.C. State

The Matador can’t seem to get over that .500 threshold, but things will change this Saturday. I am calling for a huge win for Clemson. Clemson is less than a TD favorite (-4.5) against N.C. State. I’m not sure how this line was set. The Wolfpack’s offense is pretty much an air attack and Clemson is ranked 2nd in the ACC for pass defense. Ergo, when push comes to shove, N.C. State doesn’t have the game plan or the...

Tomahawk Nation ready to throw the Axe?

The Matador is saying it now, Bobby Bowden will not be the head coach of Florida State come next season. Not only are the Seminoles 4-5 and face their first losing season in over 30 years, but now the starting QB Christian Ponder is out for the rest of the season with a separated right shoulder. Ponder’s injury was a result of him making a tackle during the 4th quarter of the Clemson game, which Florida State lost 40-24. Florida Sate faces...
