Clemson's Parker leads the Tigers to division title in baseball

This time last year, Clemson’s Kyle Parker was a redshirt freshman who was entrenched in a heated quarterback competition with Willy Korn. Fast forward to 2010, Parker is set to enter the 2010 season as Clemson’s #1 QB on the depth chart while Korn has left Clemson for the greener pastures of Marshall. Parker led the Clemson Tigers to an ACC Atlantic division football title last season and hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down.

While Parker demonstrated that he has all the tools necessary to succeed on the gridiron, he and Clemson made NCAA and ACC history on the the baseball diamond this past weekend. Clemson defeated Florida State 8-3 to capture the ACC Atlantic division title.  Parker became the first player in NCAA history to throw 20 touchdowns and hit 18 home runs in the same academic year. He also became the first ACC player to play for an ACC division title in football and baseball in the same year. Clemson became the first ACC school to win a division title in football and baseball.

For the 2010 collegiate baseball season, Parker hit a team best 18 home runs and led the team in batting average (.373), on-base percentage (.508), and slugging percentage (.725). Parker is a true dual sport athlete who is definitely poised to play at the next level.
