A Prince takes a knee

UCLA's Kevin Prince lead the Bruins past 7th ranked Texas 34-12 back in September but has been suffering knee problems ever since.

Not only did UCLA get embarrassed 60-13 by Oregon this past Thursday, but the Bruins got more bad news as they learned QB Kevin Prince will miss the remainder of the season after arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. Prince missed the last two Bruins’ games before undergoing surgery this Saturday to repair the meniscus in his knee.

Prince’s knee continued to bother him with pain and swelling after last month’s surprise upset win over Texas and team doctors thought it best to proceed with the surgery. Prince also underwent a microfracture procedure to stimulate the growth of new cartilage.

Prince was having a sub-par sophomore season passing for just 384 yards, 3 TDs, and 5 INTs in 5 games. QB Richard Brehaut has been handling 1st string duties while Prince was out and is expected to start despite struggling this season and especially against Oregon. Brehaut has thrown for 348 yards and 2 INTs in just 4 starts. At this point, there is nothing UCLA can do about their lack of depth at QB, but Neuheisel has the opportunity to salvage the rest of the season with some winnable games left on the schedule.
