On Monday, WR Jameel Owens got some good news from the NCAA. Owens, a former Oklahoma Sooner top-prospect, transferred to Tulsa to be closer to his sick mother. Per NCAA rules, players are required to sit out one year when transferring between D-1 schools. Owens petitioned the NCAA to waive the transfer rule citing family health reasons. The NCAA reviewed the petition and ultimately granted a transfer waiver that cleared the path for Owens to suit up in 2010.
While in Norman, Owens saw limited action as a true freshman playing in nine games and catching 4 passes for 44 yards. In 2009, Owens red-shirted leaving him 3 seasons of eligibility for Coach Todd Graham and the Hurricanes. Tulsa is ecstatic to have a top flight WR on the field. The coaches admire his size (6’3) and speed (4.45 40). He is a down-field threat that should provide plenty of highlight material for the Hurricanes in the coming years.
