According to former Florida defensive back Wondy Pierre-Louis, the Gainesville Green was around in abundance for the 2006 Florida Gator football team. Pierre-Louis estimates about 75 percent of the 2006 team smoked marijuana based on internal talks among players and teammates posting positive tests. Pierre-Louis refused to estimate the current percentage since he says head coach Urban Meyer has significantly reduced the drug use on the team.
This should not come as a surprise to anyone that attended any college, perhaps other than Bob Jones University. In addition to Pierre Louis’s statement, CNNSI recently reported that one NFL head coach estimated one-third of the players on his current draft board had a history of marijuana use.
Pierre-Louis issued his revealing statement after it was announced that former Gator tight end Aaron Hernandez’s draft slide had to do with the fact that he failed one, if not more, drug test(s) while at the University of Florida. A Boston Globe article written on April 27, 2010, leaked information regarding Hernandez’s drug history in Gainesville and attributed it to his falling draft stock. Hernandez, considered by many to be the best pass catching TE in the 2010 NFL draft, surprisingly dropped to the 4th round and was drafted by the New England Patriots.
