Georgia cracks down on tailgating for the 2010 season

In an attempt to take the fun out of tailgating, University of Georgia officials announced a few new rules regarding pre-game rituals for the 2010 football season.

As a campus wide enactment and in an anti-Southern movement, there will be no more deep fryers or low boilers on campus. Also, for all you cheapskates who park in the garages, you are no longer allowed to use grills in or on top of the parking decks.

For those of you who were accustomed to partying with the best of them up on North Campus, well the times have changed. Though the newly enacted rules didn’t clearly state no tailgating on North, all the restrictions pretty much prevent any resemblance of a tailgate. You can no longer bring tents, kegs, generators, televisions, music, grills or cookers of any type, tables, and household furniture. In a nutshell, you can’t bring anything that actually defines tailgating. So for those who party up on North, all that’s left to do is sit on an upside down peach basket, dine on a small milk crate table, and munch on prepackaged cold cuts.

The intent behind the rules makes sense to preserve the historic value of North Campus, but this no tailgating rule is a tad bit absurd. The school would be better off banning the entire area rather than enforcing such ridiculous rules on North. After all, Georgia fans will not have many post game celebrations this season, so why not let the kids enjoy their pregame festivities.

Good job Georgia, you’ve successfully taken the bark out of the Dawgs.

As a side note, don’t think for a second the Corporate tailgates aren’t hit by this rule either.
