It looks like another college football player is busted for DUI. Early Wednesday morning, Boise State running back Michael Atkinson, 20, was arrested for driving under the influence and charge with misdemeanor leaving the scene of an accident.
Atkinson apparently struck a metal barrier and then proceeded to walk away from the scene. A witness stated he saw the incident which occurred near Vista Avenue and Canal Street at around 1:15 a.m. The witness approached the damaged car to see if the driver was alright. The driver said yes and then walked away.
Atkinson, who was stumbling down the street, was picked up by the Boise City Police a few blocks away. He failed the field sobriety test and his blood alcohol level registered between .15 and .17, twice the legal limit. He was immediately booked into Ada County jail but is now out on bond.
Atkinson is a 6’0 320 lbs freshman defensive tackle from Windsor, Ontario. He is known by his teammates as “Bacon’’ because of his nationality and bulk. Boise State athletic department spokesman Max Corbet said the university is aware of the situation and is following the department’s student-conduct policy. The question remains if he will play opening day against the Oregon Ducks on September 3rd at Broncos stadium.
