Ole Miss Kisses Colonel Rebel Goodbye
Colonel Rebel’s time at Ole Miss has come to an end. In a move to part ways with the old south image that the school has been stricken with, Ole Miss students successfully voted today that their mascot’s days must come to an end.
Almost 4,000 students voted online and around 75% of the vote favored the change. Earlier this year, the KKK held a mini march on campus in opposition to the proposed change.
This is the latest in a string of moves by Ole Miss to try to change their image. Most recently, “From Dixie with Love” was removed from the bands list, and a few years ago, school officials prohibited fans from bringing Confederate flags to the game.
Welcome to the 21st century Ole Miss, maybe this move will give the Rebels a recruiting boost.
