The drama in LA continues. Lane Kiffin has left the Tennessee Vols for the USC Trojans, a move that’s sending shock waves through the college football world. Kiffin just finished his first season at Tennessee going 7-6 and a Chick-fil-A bowl appearance. Kiffin will replace legendary coach Pete Carroll, who left USC this past weekend for the Seattle Seahawks.
Kiffin previously coached at ‘SC from 2001-2006 and then left for the Oakland Raiders. After a tumultuous one and a half seasons at Oakland, he was fired and headed back to the college ranks. At Tennessee, Kiffin wasted no time making his presence known by taking shots at opposing conference coaches and establishing himself as an obnoxious young coach. He was generally disliked by many in the conference and it seems as if he enjoyed the garnered reputation.
This move while shocking, isn’t surprising. Kiffin and USC are a match made in heaven. It will be interesting to see how this year’s recruiting class reacts to his hiring. Time will only tell as national signing day is right around the corner.
