If the Spartans lose, it’s like they win

Too many San Jose TDs could be costly

If there is ever a scenario where losing is the best bet, well here it is. This weekend, San Jose State faces conference rival Boise State. Of course all the San Jose State fans and the rest of the college football world want to see the Spartans upset the Broncos, but I’m not so sure the Spartans’ AD wants that.

If San Jose upsets the Broncos, it is an absolute certainty Boise State will not go to a BCS bowl game. However, if the Broncos win and stay undefeated they will land an at-large BCS bid and San Jose stands to inherit $400,000 (the teams entitlement as every conference team gets a BCS payout shared amongst all conference teams).

That kind of money practically finances the entire football season for the Spartans. So if you see any bad fumbles, interceptions, or missed tackles, it may have something to do with their 1-5 record, but don’t be so sure that wasn’t done intentionally for pecuniary reasons.

After all, money talks.
