Gresham's Out for Year

The hits just keep coming for the Oklahoma Sooners. All Big XII tight end Jermaine Gresham’s career as a member of the Sooner football team is over. Gresham will undergo season ending arthroscopic surgery on his right knee that will take at least 5 months to heal. He injured his knee during practice two weeks ago and missed OU’s season opener loss against the BYU Cougars. Gresham turned down potential millions by not entering this year’s NFL draft and decided to return to OU for his senior season instead. Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops made the annoucment about Gresham during a press conference yesterday,

“He’s such a main target, presence on the field and quality player that it changes,” Stoops said, according to the Associated Press. “It changes everything, your run-blocking along with your protection, along with him out in routes and, in particular, red zone stuff. You just have to work through it.”

People will say what they want about Gresham’s decision to stay at OU for his senior year, but I applaud him for his decision. He made the choice that he felt was right for him and that’s all that matters. Gresham will recover from this injury and will more than likely enter next year’s NFL draft. Irregardless of this injury, he will still continue to wow us at the next level. We wish him a speedy recovery and can’t wait to see what the future holds for him.
