Time Ticking for Rutgers and Darrell Givens

Darrell Givens, a star Maryland  high school cornerback and Rutgers recruit,  is still awaiting word from Rutgers officials about his admission to the New Jersey school. The issue delaying the admissions process is with Givens’s high school transcripts from Friendly (MD) HS.  Givens had initially signed a letter of intent to play for Penn State earlier this year but the school withdrew its offer earlier this week, which was a surprise to him. Givens’s high school coach, Doug Lamb, said, “He’s eligible according to the NCAA. I’m not really sure what happened at Penn State. I think there was a communications mix up. But the paperwork is supposed to be done shortly. Then you will see him at Rutgers.”

The 6’1, 178 lb. Givens was the #29 cornerback in the nation, according to Rivals, and originally chose Penn State over Rutgers. He’s a speedy lockdown corner who will compete for playing time at Rutgers this year as a freshman. Rutgers coach Greg Schiano would definitely benefit by having Givens on the field this year. It will be interesting to see how this situation plays itself out as the Scarlet Knights being their fall practices next Tuesday.
