Duck Gone Wild

The most famous cheerleader in college football history is making the news. Amanda Pflugrad may lose her cheerleading scholarship after pictures of her booze cruise bikini adventures made their way onto the internet. Oregon officials don’t think this is the image they want the squad to portray and Amanda doesn’t accurately represent the Ducks. Much to the dismay of Duck fans and players, sites are being created to Save Amanda’s Scholarship. Please help, in the name of pageantry.

Iowa to lose a Jewel

Big rumors are swirling in Iowa City. There is chatter that the Hawkeyes’ star RB Jewel Hampton is contemplating red-shirting the 2009 season. Earlier in the summer, Hampton went down with a right knee strain which was subsequently injured during the preseason a few weeks ago. If his right knee doesn’t improve, he will have no other choice but to go under the knife. If he opts for knee surgery, he would be forced to sit out his sophomore season...

Shannon says “No”

The entire Miami Hurricanes offense is going to rest on the health of QB Jacory Harris. After the sudden departure of Miami’s two back-up QBs, coach Randy Shannon was flooded with QB transfer requests to play for the ‘Canes.   The flood of requests brought promise to the fans that the departure of Cook and Smith would be a distant memory. However, Shannon has faith in his QB and told reporters today that the program will not add any new QBs to...

When The Matador thinks college football, Kenny Chesney does not come to mind. It pains me to think that part of Chesney will be incorporated into every single ESPN/ABC college football game this season. Last fall Kenny Chesney was at a Nashville dinner with play-by-play announcer Brett Musburger, football analyst Kirk Herbstreit and producer Bill Bonnell. Presumably with whiskey in hand, Chesney began scribbling lyrics on a cocktail napkin. These lyrics soon became a recorded song titled “This Is Our Moment.” The video...

Lion’s Last Roar

Today, Edward “Ted” Kennedy is being memorialized at Harvard by flying the U.S. flag at half-staff to recognize this legendary lawmaker. The football team is also grieving in its own way by draping his #88 jersey in his old college football locker.  Coach Tim Murphy also observed a moment of silence after this morning’s practice to honor Kennedy’s greatness and service to the country. Kennedy graduated from Harvard in 1956 and pulled in a few touchdowns during his playing days. He was a gritty defensive...

Rise to your feet and cheer

August 26, 2009

The NCAA is encouraging the pregame handshake–which seems a bit absurd considering after the handshake you want to pulverize your opponent, but in the name of sportsmanship The Matador understands. However, The Ohio State University is taking this concept one step further. As the Buckeyes take the field against Navy on September 5th, 2009 at The Shoe, fans are encouraged to “rise to your feet and cheer” the Midshipmen.

LSU to rent baseball suites

In an effort to boost income for the Tigers’ program, LSU fans can rent suites from the new Alex Box Stadium during LSU’s 7 home games. There are 17 coveted suites for the serious football tailgater. Each suite will come with 24 suite passes and six parking passes. If you don’t feel like leaving the comforts of the suite, the Tigers’ games will be aired on the viewing monitors all throughout the suite and on the baseball field’s jumbo-tron. If you do decide to...
