William & Mary’s new mascot lost his pants

The next time you see the William & Mary Tribe running into Zable Stadium onto Cary Field, you might be left with some questions. Today, the nation’s second oldest college introduced the fans to the school’s new bizarre mascot, the William & Mary Griffin (actual name is currently under vote). If you are asking yourself what in the world is a griffin, you are not alone. A griffin is a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of...

Two more coaches are unemployed

At least two coaches fell victim this Black Sunday. UVA’s Al Groh parted ways with the Cavaliers and Marshall’s Mark Snyder, who resigned, will forever be a Herd but just not the head coach. Groh’s firing shouldn’t come to any surprise. His job has been in jeopardy since the season kicked-off. The team suffered an embarrassing 3-9 record in 2009 and lost 8 of their last nine games. The team hit an all time low when it lost to in-state...

The fans cheer, Groh Must Go!

There is a rumor swirling around Charlottesville that coach Al Groh may be packing his bags sooner than expected. After last weeks crushing blow courtesy of William & Mary (26-14), UVA was hoping for a good show against visiting TCU. The Cavs’ defense showed some signs of hope, but in the end, TCU was just too powerful and left UVA...

The ACC Embarrassment

The Matador received heavy criticism for his early preseason bashing of the ACC.  If we learned anything from week 1, The Matador wasn’t too far off the mark. The two inexcusable beatings landed at the hands of Duke losing to Richmond 16-24 and lowly UVA being ousted by in-state rival William & Mary 14-26. Another game that set the conference back was Cal thumping Maryland 52-13. The ACC did have some close games that came down to 4th quarter...

Fans Groh-ing Impatient

This summer, The Matador polled its fan base regarding which D-1 coach would be the first to go. The fans overwhelmingly picked Cheeseburger Charlie. However, it looks like coach Al Groh‘s stock just shot straight to the top. In the Cavalier’s season opener against D 1-AA William & Mary, Groh’s team had an amazing 5 fumbles (4 were lost) in a 14-26 lack luster performance. Groh’s 5-7 record last season was bad, but to lose to a lower-tier program...
