Alabama will be without Heisman winner Mark Ingram as he recovers from knee surgery

Nick Saban’s worst nightmare came true yesterday when Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram went down injuring his left knee during yesterday’s practice. The tailback’s injury was so severe he immediately underwent successful arthroscopic knee surgery performed by Dr. Lyle Cain and Dr. James Andrews (presumably both Crimson Tide fans).

The tailback is listed as day-to-day but he will certainly miss Bama’s home opener this Saturday against San Jose State. It is still undecided if Ingram will suit up for the September 11th show down against Penn State.

Typically with this type of knee surgery, a player will be out a few weeks. With the NFL in the horizon, there is no reason to jeopardize Ingram’s future. He should rest, recover, and rehab for as long as it takes. There should be no fear in Tuscaloosa, Alabama is in good hands with back-ups Trent Richardson and Eddie Lacy.
