The Beef O’Brady Bowl featuring Louisville and Southern Mississippi just got a little more interesting. Yesterday, during the informal Beach Bash dance competition at the Tradewinds Island Resort, a huge brawl almost ensued between the two teams. During a friendly poolside dance-off, a Louisville player, who was presumably a better break dancer than any of the Golden Eagles, started poking fun at Southern Mississippi, their horrible dancing, and the fact that they play in the inferior Conference USA. Of course, Golden Eagle players did not like being belittled so they and had a few choice words of their own.
The jawing escalated to an almost fight but fortunately armed Florida Highway Patrol officers arrived just in time to prevent any altercation. Players were immediately ordered by their coaches back to their buses prematurely ending the dance-off.
It is obvious that the pre-game hostilities will make this an even harder hitting match-up than first anticipated. Both sides have some time to cool off before they head over to Tropicana Field Tuesday night to let their anger out on the field. Frankly, a dance-off may be better than the actual game, but we will find out for sure tomorrow night.
