Drugs Clip LSU’s Wing

For the LSU fans who adore punter Brad Wing and his unconventional yet exceptional punting ability, he may never dawn a Tiger uniform again.  For the second time this season, the Aussie will not be on the team roster after a failed drug test.  This means Wing will not be traveling to the Chick-Fil-A Bowl when LSU faces the Clemson Tigers come December 31st.  Freshman Jaime Keehn, an Australian native, will assume kicking duties.  Wing has been in head...

LSU Soccer Sensation Mo Isom To Tryout Again

Mo Isom is back on the practice field as she tries to kick her way onto LSU’s football roster this season. The fifth-year senior and homecoming queen made headlines last year when she tried out for a placekicking spot. Though she didn’t make the cut, she left with a memorable performance including hitting on a 51-yard field goal attempt. After a year to reflect, she is back and ready to show the world that a female can compete on...

LSU homecoming queen and soccer goalie misses football cut

LSU women’s soccer sensation Mo Isom made headlines when news broke she was trying out for the Tigers football team as a kickoff specialist. Unfortunately, her dream of becoming a D1 football player has come to an end.  On Tuesday, coach Les Miles announced that Isom did not make the cut stating, “we kind of felt like there’s four guys on the team right now that would be ahead of anybody that tried out the other day.” Miles did...

Les Miles becomes the new face of Louisiana’s turfgrass industry

With all the hype surrounding this weekend’s LSU vs. Alabama match-up, the state government of Louisiana thought it’s a perfect time to ride the coattails of Les Miles’ success and most notably his fame. Most fans were unaware of Miles’ habit of chewing on grass before each game but after he was captured doing this during last season’s LSU-Alabama game, it soon became a media blitz. So with all eyes on Miles and the LSU Tigers this Saturday, the...

Stick with Lee, Les

Disgraced LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson wants his starting job back from Jarrett Lee, his replacement. Jefferson, a senior, was reinstated to the football program last week after suspension for his involvement in a mid-August fight. He had originally been charged with felony second-degree battery, but a Louisiana grand jury reduced his charge to simple battery, a misdemeanor, thus clearing the way for his return. Jefferson has been LSU’s starting signal-caller since November 2008, his true freshman season in Baton Rouge....

9 Craziest Sports Rituals

For as arrogant as professional athletes can appear, their strong belief in superstitions suggests they don’t have as much faith in their abilities as they’d like us to believe. Most athletes have some kind of ritual they go through before playing a game, which can be as simple as putting on their equipment in a certain order or eating a specific food. But some people take their compulsions to an extreme, whether it’s a player, a team’s fans, or...

Maize and Blue spotted in Baton Rouge

Last time I checked the University of Michigan did not officially own or lease any twin engine Lear jets such as the one pictured above. However, this bad boy is owned by mega-booster and former president of the Michigan Alumni Association, Rich Rogel, who hails from Colorado, but happened to land his plane in the Baton Rouge Metro Airport twice in three days. Perhaps Rogel is leading the charge, or at least picking up the tab, to woo Les...

Under Saban, The Tide Has Turned

On January 3, 2007, Nick Saban agreed to become Alabama’s 27th head coach. Both the Tide and Saban were the butt of many jokes across the nation. College football fans from Eugene, OR, to West Palm Beach, FL, were placing bets on how long it would be before Saban left the Crimson Tide for greener pastures elsewhere. Thirty-eight wins later, it looks as if Saban and Alabama are having the last laugh. For a conference that prides itself on being the...
