With all the hype surrounding this weekend’s LSU vs. Alabama match-up, the state government of Louisiana thought it’s a perfect time to ride the coattails of Les Miles’ success and most notably his fame. Most fans were unaware of Miles’ habit of chewing on grass before each game but after he was captured doing this during last season’s LSU-Alabama game, it soon became a media blitz.
So with all eyes on Miles and the LSU Tigers this Saturday, the Louisiana’s Department of Agriculture and Forestry decided to name Les Miles as the spokesman for the “Louisiana-grown” turfgrass industry.
Commissioner Mike Strain said that Miles is the new face of the industry and he will be featured on billboards, posters, print, and Internet ads for an industry that brings in over $20 million to the state economy annually. Strain believes, “we couldn’t have dreamed of a better spokesperson for Louisiana turfgrass than Les Miles.” “Les is not only a national championship-winning head coach and a respected figure in the state, but he also happens to have a genuine appreciation of turfgrass.”
Miles’ response, “nothing beat’s Louisiana-grown turfgrass. It’s local, fresh and reliable. And it’s the grass of champions, whether you chew it for luck or not.”
