Gridiron Fantasy Sports absconds with funds

If you are one of the lucky few to win your fantasy football league, there is nothing like receiving prize money at the end of the season. Unfortunately, if you played in any of the Gridiron Fantasy Sports high-stakes fantasy leagues (“Gridiron,” d/b/a World Championship of Fantasy Football, d/b/a World Championship of Fantasy Baseball) winners were not necessarily paid. As of today, Gridiron failed to pay out more than $151,261 in prize money. For players who won their 2010...

Virginia Tech struggles to sell BCS tickets, students guilt tripped

Virginia Tech is having difficulties in selling its allotment of 17,500 tickets for the 2012 Allstate Sugar Bowl. As of Monday evening, Tech only sold about 9,500 tickets. This is considerably low considering Tech’s reputation of traveling well and garnering strong fan support. In a desperate attempt to boost ticket sales, Tech’s top brass asked, if not guilted, fans to purchase proxy tickets. “The Athletics Department is asking Hokie fans that cannot make this year’s Allstate Sugar Bowl to...

Penn State president set to paralyze football program

In the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal, newly appointed Penn State President Rodney Erickson has avowed to the Nittany Lion nation that he will place less emphasis on football. He wants to portray Penn State as a “world class research institution” rather than Linebacker-U. One of Erickson’s first initiatives to reach this goal is to establish a national Center for the Protection of Children that will be housed at Hershey Medical Center Children’s Hospital and...

Maryland is in complete disarray

After Maryland stunned the ACC by winning its home opener against a less than 100% Miami Hurricanes squad, the remainder of the season has been a complete downward spiral. Last night Maryland faced Notre Dame in its own backyard at FedEx field losing 45-21. Though it was deemed a home game for the Irish, Maryland’s campus is only a short drive away. However, out of the 70,251 in attendance, the Terps representation was almost nonexistent. The Fighting Irish absolutely...

Navy QB Kriss Proctor leads team to victory without completing a pass

Navy QB Kriss Proctor led the Midshipmen to a 24-17 victory over SMU today despite zero passing yards. In fact, Proctor only threw the ball twice, both being incomplete (he did have one complete pass, but it was to the other team). “I love it,” Proctor joked. “I didn’t complete a pass. I threw a pick. I guess that counts as a completion.” Where Proctor failed in the aerial attack, he more than made up in the ground game....

Barry Switzer immortalized by Oklahoma

The University of Oklahoma commemorated former head coach Barry Switzer by unveiling a bronze statue of the legendary coach at the Switzer Center this past Saturday during a well received pre-game dedication ceremony. In attendance included Big12 commissioner Chuck Neinas, Bob Stoops, and former and current OU coaches and players. From 1973-1988, Switzer compiled an unprecedented 157-29-4 overall record and a  blustering 100-11-1 conference record winning more games than any other coach in school history. During that dominance, he...
