Before the season started, no one was sure of Toby Gerhart’s football status and most people outside of Palo Alto never actually knew how good he was. In 2009, he was offered a lucrative baseball contract in June’s MLB draft but he eventually passed on it so he could continue his services as a Cardinal running back. 2009 Doak Walker Award Watch List

The Doak Walker Award watch list was just released this afternoon. It is even more absurd than the O’Brien award as 45 running backs are featured on this list. Again, there seems to be a lack of prestige and/or seriousness to be on the watch list when pretty much any back with two feet gets named. The Doak is named after SMU and Detroit Lions football player Doak Walker. It was first awarded in 1990 to Washington’s Greg Lewis....
