Make room at the table for the Mountain West Conference

The Bowl Championship Series (BCS) meetings are taking place in Phoenix, Arizona, this week. While all the media talk has been about the potential expansion of the Big Ten and Southeastern conferences, the Mountain West Conference could end up as the biggest winner if the the BCS powers that be have their way. BCS executive director Bill Hancock mentioned during meetings on Wednesday the possibility of Mountain West becoming the seventh conference to receive the coveted BCS automatic berth for the 2012 and...

You’re killing me, Smalls!

Not that UVA was going to contend for an ACC championship this season, but new head coach Mike London must be scratching his head wondering what he is going to do with his lack of experienced signal callers. As it stands, Sophomore Riko Smalls, who was going to contend against Senior Marc Verica for the starting spot, turned in his playbook and packed his bags. Smalls announced today that he was going to transfer from UVA and continue his...

Irving’s A Go

NC State received some good news late last week in finding out that LB Nate Irving has been cleared to participate in spring practices. This news bodes well for the NC State defense considering how much of an impact Irving has when on the field. Irving suffered serious injuries during the summer of 2009 which forced him to miss all of the Wolfpack’s 2009 season. He fell asleep at the wheel of his car while driving and suffered a...

To be (a football star), or not to be, that is the question

Clemson fans should be a bit concerned heading into spring practice regarding who will take snaps under center. QB Kyle Parker, who led the Tigers to their first ACC title game, may have thrown his last TD pass. Parker is now focusing on baseball as he is a standout outfielder on a team who is ranked as high as #15 in some preseason polls. Currently, Parker is in his third season with the school’s baseball team. Some speculate he...

Nesbitt Grounded For Spring

Georgia Tech QB Josh Nesbitt is expected to miss 6 weeks after undergoing ankle surgery earlier this week. Unfortunately for Nesbitt, he likely will not make a full recovery in time for Tech’s spring practices which begins on March 29th. Nesbitt passed for 1,000 yards and rushed for another 1,000 during Georgia Tech’s ACC championship run last season. The Georgia Tech coaching staff have to be a little disappointed with this news as they were planning on spending the...

The NCAA Strips Florida State

It’s official. The Florida State Seminoles will be forced to vacate 12 of its wins, five from the 2006-07 season and seven from the 2007-08 season. As part of the NCAA’s punishment, the school will be required to forfeit any trophies won during those seasons. Not that it’s an eye stopper at the Rick Losco Trophy Room, but this means the school must return its Emerald Bowl trophy back to the appropriate sponsor. Other teams facing sanctions were men’s and women’s...

Korn Leaves Clemson

Clemson backup QB Willie Korn is leaving the football program for Marshall. Korn, a redshirt sophomore, came to Clemson in 2007 as one of the most prized QB recruits in history. Then-coach Tommy Bowden had so much faith in Korn that he and his coaching staff did not go after another QB in that recruiting class. Unfortunately, Korn’s career at Clemson has been plagued with injuries which left him too far behind on the depth chart. As a result, he has never...
