As easy as it was to be a Trojan fan during the Reggie Bush days, the true loyalists are being put to the test. Last night, USC got trounced by Oregon State 36-7. To make matters work, the Trojans’ beloved starter QB Matt Barkley injured his left ankle on the final offensive play of the first half for the Trojans. He was helped off the field, but eventually was carted to the locker room and was deemed finished for the night, and perhaps the season. At this point, Barkley was 10 of 19 for 75 yards and 1 INT.
With Barkley sidelined, former Arkansas stud Mitch Mustain was called to resurrect the Trojans. Unfortunately, he went three-and-out on his first drive, but he did lead the Trojans on their only scoring drive in the 3rd quarter. He finished the evening 8 for 17 amassing 60 yards in the losing effort.
It’s been a long time coming for Mitch Mustain, but after four years and several QB battles, it looks like Mustain will finally get his shot to lead the Trojans against rival Notre Dame next week.
