Young not interested in Bush’s Heisman

Texas QB Vince Young was disappointed he didn't win the 2005 Heisman, but if given the award, he doesn't want it now. It belongs to Reggie Bush.

With word spreading of Bush possibly being stripped of his 2005 Heisman Trophy and Coach Mack Brown advocating last week that the award should go to his former star QB, Vince Young’s mother is putting a stop to all the speculation. Felicia Young, an apparent PR rep for Vince, told Fox 26 in Houston that we don’t want it.

“We’re not interested in having no honor and no glory out of somebody else they are trying to tear down, no,” Felicia Young said. “They did not give Vincent the Heisman when he was there, even though I know that my son, he was the one who should have had the Heisman, but God didn’t see it that way. He gave it to Reggie Bush.”

As much as Vince and Felicia were both disappointed and angry in not winning the trophy, Felicia Young was adamant that the Young’s will continue to honor Bush and they think it’s wrong to strip him of his trophy and “tear down that young man [Bush].”

When Yahoo first launched the report, they stated that the Heisman would be left vacant for 2005. If this turns out to be true, then the issue and debate is mute. However, it’s nice to see that Young is too proud to accept an award for finishing second place.

It was clear that Bush, absent the national championship game, was the best college athlete and all who saw him that season would come to the same conclusion. He will always be the 2005 Heisman Trophy winner regardless if he has the hardware to show it off.
