DE Marcus Campbell tears ACL, out for season

Marcus Campbell (#26) tore his ACL during non-contact drills on Saturday.

UConn defensive end Marcus Campbell is out for the season after tearing his ACL in practice this weekend. This is a major setback for the talented DE who missed the entire 2009 season because of academic reasons.

When Campbell first arrived in Storrs, he had a promising ’07-’08 campaign amassing 24 tackles, 2 sacks, and 4.5 tackles for a loss. The end was supposed to anchor the Huskies defense in 2010 as he had a strong spring practice and stood atop the depth chart.

This is a significant blow for a team that lacks in depth and experience at the end position. Coach Randy Edsall hoped for Campbell to be an integral part of the QB rush department. It is now time for DEs Lloyd and Joseph to step-up as this is one of the better Huskies teams assembled by Coach Edsall. Anything less than a Big East title crown will be a disappointment.
