QB Jacory Harris (#12) is still recovering from surgery, but says he will be ready come kick-off 2010

Six months after surgery, Miami’s QB Jacory Harris is still recovering from the torn ligament damage sustained last season in his throwing hand. A confident Harris spoke to the media yesterday and reiterated that he will be ready for the September 2nd season opener despite missing all of spring practice and only throwing on a limited reps basis. Fortunately for the Canes, Miami opens the season with Florida A&M, a game in which Harris will not even see the second half. The true test for Harris and the Canes is the week 2 match-up against Big 10 powerhouse Ohio State.

Harris and the Canes believe they have the talent and the depth to go the distance. If his thumb is ready by September, there could be some truth to his statement. As it stands, Harris threw 17 INTs last season as a result of his inability to properly palm and release the ball. He has a short window to return to 100% because he needs to cut down his INTs if he wants to find success against the team’s early brutal road schedule (at Ohio State, at Pitt, at Clemson). Miami should be commended for scheduling tough OCC opponents, this is the sign of a team vying for the glory of yesteryear. However, tomorrow’s glory rests with the health of their star gunslinger Jacory Harris.
