Michigan's Lloyd Carr is calling it a day after 30 years of service in Ann Arbor

A Michigan legend is stepping down from the Wolverines’ front office. Lloyd Carr announced yesterday that  he is retiring as the school’s athletic director effective September 1, 2010. Carr put in over 30 years of service in Ann Arbor, but was most notably recognized for his success as a head coach winning five Big 10 titles and one national championship (’97). He compiled a 122-40 record during his tenure. In 2008, after a thrilling Capital One Bowl victory over the Florida Gators, Carr left the helm opening the doors for current head coach Rich Rodriguez.

After 2 ½ years as the AD and a turbulent football record under Rodriguez, Carr is ready for the next phase of his life. As a retiree, Carr will continue to be a mentor to the Michigan family, but he plans on spending more time reading, traveling, and most importantly, being a philanthropist. The Matador would like to congratulate Carr for his dedication and success in an already tradition rich program.

There is no word as to who will take over the AD duties.
