Boise State bolts to the Mountain West Conference

After nine years in the Western Athletic Conference, Boise State says farewell. The Broncos have accepted an invitation to join the Mountain West Conference earlier today. The news of Boise’s defection from the WAC comes on a week where rumors of a potential historic college football shake-up have been as rampant as Justin Beiber’s hair.

Mountain West officials are beaming from ear to ear to have Boise State sitting at their table as this bodes well for their conference’s chances of grabbing a coveted automatic BCS berth. “We are pleased and excited to welcome Boise State University to the Mountain West Conference,” said Commissioner Craig Thompson in a statement. “Since our inception just 11 short years ago, the Mountain West has experienced tremendous success, and the addition of Boise State will further enhance that strength.”

Boise State is officially the second team, following Colorado, to leave a conference this off-season in what could be college football’s most extreme makeover ever. Sit back and watch as more shots are expected to be fired before all the smoke clears.
